TRACE THE HISTORY OF NAVAGRAHASTHALAS IN INDIA


There are many Surya temples in India . Surya is one of the Navagrahas.
Apart from that separate Navagraha temples for each Navagraha is found in Tamilnadu and Most of the temples there is a separate installation of all the Navagrahas . Special pujas are done to Navagrahas and they are considered as deities.


All over India also at many places Navagraha temples are found  


SURYA TEMPEL’S IN INDIA


  1. Suryanarayana temple at Arasavilli, Andhra pradesh.
   It was established at 7th century by Kalinga kings. It is near Srikakulam.


2.Sun temple at Modhera at Gujarat.
Here the Sun’s rays fall on the image of Surya at the time of Equinoxes.
It is the home of Modhera dance festivals. It had the patronage of the Magadha rulers.


3. Sun temple at Kaonarak in Orissa is one of the grandest.
It is situated 20 miles North east of Puri.
Builtat 13th Century , Konarak means cornr of the Sun. It hasa chariot having 7 horses , depicting 7 days of the week. 24 huge wheels mark 24 hrs of the day.
It was designed by Ganga ruler Narashimha deva who however did not complete it.
Main ideal of Sun removed by Portugese. Many important dieties of the temple are kept at Jagganth Puri.

SURYA PAHAR AT ASSAM
It is situated in a hill at Golphara in Assam. It has 12 images of Aditya. Each Aditya has one face and two arms.

SURYANAR KOVIL IN TAMIL NADU
Itis 3km from Adudurai.

BRHMNYA DEVA TEMPLE -
At Unao at Madhya pradesh. It is near Jahansi.
DAKSHINAARAKA TEMPLE -
It is at Gaya Bihar. Offering to ancestors are done in this temple.It is made at 13th century . The diety is dressed in Iranian style as of Central Asia.

NAVAGRAHA TEMPLE AT ASSAM
It is at Gauhaati at Chittaranjan hills. It was at one time centre of astronomy and astrology. Itwas bulilt at 18th cenetuary.
